The future built by the inquiring minds of our researchers.

Employees in the era of foundation
1939 Established the predecessor of our company,“Nichiden Kagaku Kenkyusho.”

The original purpose of thefoundationwas to extract alumina from domestic clay and conductindustrialization tests.

1940

Lactic acid packed in Fujimaki bottles
Increase in facilities at this lactic acid factory (Suginami)
1949 Musashino Chemical Laboratory, Ltd. established in Suginami City, Tokyo.

1950

We were the first to develop MMA technologies in Japan.
1953 Began production of alanine Alanine removes various types of harshness and brings out umami.
1950 Commercialized the world’s first synthesized lactic acids.

This experience of commercialization, which realized through our determination to open up the future by proactively working on things not being done by other companies, has served as the foundation of our company’s spirit to this day.

Started production of methacrylic acid resin, a synthetic resin.

Even in the field of synthetic resins, in which Japan was lagging behind at the time, our company pioneered the development. After transferring to Kyowa Gas Chemical Industry Co., Ltd which was a domestic joint venture, in which we invested, it became an influential business field with a diverse product lineup.

1959 Exported the technology for producing cyanuric chloride to J.R. Geigy in Switzerland.

It was adopted in recognition of our manufacturing methods superior to those of leading chemical companies in the United States, the United Kingdom, and West Germany. At the time when Japan was heavily dependent on foreign technologies, with Japan’s expenditure nearly 100 times that of income related to technology licensing, it became a groundbreaking technology export and was widely reported on the front page of the most major economic newspaper.

1960

1964 Began the production of calcium stearoyl lactylate (Belf)
Isohara plant during construction
1968 The head office was relocated to Kyobashi, Chuo City, Tokyo, and the former head office laboratory was reorganized into the Tokyo Laboratory.
Isohara Plant (Kita-Ibaraki City, Ibaraki Prefecture) started operations.

At this point, a three-base system was established, with the head office in the center of Tokyo, the research laboratory at the founding location, and the factory in Kita-Ibaraki City.

1970

Isohara plant began 24-hour production
1972 Began the production of butyl lactate. This chemical material is used in solvents with high boiling points, cleaners, inks, and paints.

1980

1989 Began the production of calcium lactate This material is used to enhance calcium content of foods and prevent crumbling of food when boiling
1980 Began the production of ethyl pyruvate Our reliable manufacturing technologies continue to provide products of high purity.
1982 Isohara Plant receives the Award for No Accidents from the Director of the Ibaraki Labour Standards Bureau.

We have been engaged in safety and health activities for a long period of time to protect the safety and security of people in the surrounding areas and our employees, and received the Awards for No Accidents from the Director of the Ibaraki Labour Standards Bureau in 1986, 1988, and 1990, as well as the Encouragement Award from the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2009.

1990

The overview of Isohara plant
Redesigned Tokyo Laboratory, the base of research and development
1991 Alanine approved as a food additive by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration).

Our products are used in a wide range of fields from food to pharmaceuticals in Japan and overseas.

1995 Obtained GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) for lactic acid and sodium lactate.

Our products are used in a wide range of fields from food to pharmaceuticals in Japan and overseas.

2000

Opening ceremony of Chinese subsidiary new plant(1)
Opening ceremony of Chinese subsidiary new plant (2)
2000 Isohara Plant acquired ISO9002 certification. Established a joint venture in China, Jiangxi Musashino Biochemical Co., Ltd.

2010

We continue to develop products of high purity and high quality.
2010 Jiangxi Musashino Biochemical Co., Ltd. changed its name to Musashino Chemical (China) Co., Ltd.

Musashino Chemical (China) Co., Ltd., which became a wholly-owned subsidiary in 2009, also introduced safety and health activities cultivated at our Isohara Plant to maintain safety and security, and received numerous praises from the local governments in China.
